Conservative columnist and author Ann Coulter was greeted with a mixture of standing ovations and heckling after she took center stage Tuesday night at Kansas University's Lied Center.

As soon as she stepped up to the microphone, Coulter fired off one zinger after another about liberalism while promising to answer questions from left-wing members in the audience who could "thrash their way to a coherent thought."

"I've come to find I like liberals a lot more," Coulter said early in her speech. "They're kind of cute when they're cold, shivering and afraid."

My Grandmother.

She was a true academic; never one to brag about her own publications, vast research, acquired respect within her fields of study, and knowledge of over 6 languages.
She was reserved when it came to politics, life, and judging others. Her greatness was in her ability to subdue others through reason and composure. She never raised her voice for it was truly below her to do so.

Then there was her humanity and love. She never judged me based on my sexuality. She knew, yet never told me to reconsider. She never scolded or threatened me. She demonstrated her unconditional love; that which many others, including parents, are at times incapable of.

Then there were her teachings. While I was growing up, my mother was too busy with her own academic ventures. I was left alone with Api. (I never called her “grandma.”) She raised me and instilled, better yet, inculcated me with love towards the arts. For three whole years I was dragged to the Armenian concert halls every Saturday - and I am grateful for that.

Her passing was expected for she was ill. Her loss, however, was devastating to my family.

As I have said to you every night for the last 10 years, I say once more “Bari Gisher” (Good Night) for the last time. Rest in Peace Api.
