Cleland Dropped A Political Grenade Upon Himself

Lady Ann has received lots of criticism and hate mail for her jabs at Max Cleland and his supposed heroism in battle.

I have heard it all and on this issue must stick with Ann. There has simply been too much published regarding the amputating incident. It really seems like a freak accident rather then heroism.

I do not agree with Lady Ann on every instance, but this time she gets it right.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is simply a fact that Max Cleland was not injured by enemy fire in Vietnam. He was not in combat, he was not -- as Al Hunt claimed -- on a reconnaissance mission, and he was not in the battle of Khe Sanh, as many others have implied. He picked up an American grenade on a routine noncombat mission and the grenade exploded.

In Cleland's own words: "I didn't see any heroism in all that. It wasn't an act of heroism. I didn't know the grenade was live. It was an act of fate." That is why Cleland didn't win a Purple Heart, which is given to those wounded in combat. Liberals are not angry because I "lied"; they're angry because I told the truth.

A Long, Impassioned Battlecry
--------------------------------------------by Andrew Sullivan--------------------------------------------

The president launched a war today against the civil rights of gay citizens and their families. And just as importantly, he launched a war to defile the most sacred document in the land....

This president wants our families denied civil protection and civil acknowledgment. He wants us stigmatized not just by a law, not just by his inability even to call us by name, not by his minions on the religious right. He wants us stigmatized in the very founding document of America. There can be no more profound attack on a minority in the United States - or on the promise of freedom that America represents....

This president has now made the Republican party an emblem of exclusion and division and intolerance...T his struggle is hard but it is also easy. The president has made it easy. He's a simple man and he divides the world into friends and foes. He has now made a whole group of Americans - and their families and their friends - his enemy. We have no alternative but to defend ourselves and our families from this attack. And we will.

The Backlash Continues With Another Definition

When it feels as if the world is against you, just think of the future and all those young liberals being educated in herds of thousands all across this nation. They are the future.

All the homophobes who are against gay marriage are going to die of old age very soon. And yes, I dare call them homophobes because there arguments are irrational, presumptuous, and based only on a strict moral interpretation.

They argue not because there position is correct but rather out of fear for the queer. They are in panic because polls have consistently shown that gay marriage is more accepted (super majority at times) as a norm within the 18- 40 year old category.

Once the baby boomers are dead the world will be ours.

What should we redecorate first?

Utah House Passes Gay Marriage Ban Amendment
by 365Gay.com Newscenter Staff

(Salt Lake City Utah) Less than a week after the Utah legislature passed a bill which bans same-sex marriages and bars the state from recognizing civil unions, the House has approved a constitutional amendment to punctuate its disapproval of gay relationships.

Gov. Olene Walker has not indicated whether she will sign the Marriage Recognition Policy. (story) A Walker spokesperson said the governor wanted to study the issue before deciding. However, an amendment to the state constitution does not need Walker's support.

The proposal says "marriage consists only of the legal union between a man and a woman."
"I am not telling you that God does not love people who are gay. God loves gays as well as anyone else, but we have a right to declare what is nature's laws," said Rep. David Ure (R-Kamas).

But Democrats said banning gay marriages wouldn't make the state any stronger.
"I've heard it said over and again: this is about civilization, to protect the downfall of our civilization," said Rep. David Litvak (D-Salt Lake City). "I'm struggling. How is my life, my marriage, going to be made more stable or stronger by this amendment?"

Is Mel Gibson an Anti-Semite?

This whole thing is a stretch. I want someone to find a quote directly from MEL GIBSON. Or an act of Jew bashing by MEL GIBSON. Only then will I believe the harsh accusation that Mel Gibson himself is an anti-Semite. Until such evidence is found, and the burden is on the accusers, this whole accusation is ridiculous and asinine. I love that word.

There is no evidence to condemn Mel. There is only a story of a sad old father, a weird family, and a son who will not stand against his father beliefs. Personally, I don’t think that a son should apologize for his father. His dad is alive and an apology from the son will not make anything disappear. It certainly will not change the father's view point.
Furthermore, the strongest link to date is an analysis based on a quote that is not directly cited (could be a lie) and is most likely out of context. As evidence below the article does not mention the origin of the “never lied to him” quote and it’s specific context. He could have said that when he was 12, 15, 20, or 40 years old. He could have been talking about the time when his father told him about the birds and bees. Who knows? We certainly don’t and the accusers are assuming that it is relevant.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mel Gibson's spokesman, Alan Nierob, had no comment on the elder Gibson's tirade.
But Abraham Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League said they were the words of a "classical anti-Semite."
"If it wasn't so sad, it would be funny," he said.
He's troubled by Mel Gibson's failure to condemn his father's beliefs, and pointed to a recent interview where Gibson said his dad never lied to him.
"Well, he's been lying to the world, but it sounds like truth to the son? That's strange," Foxman said. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/wn_report/story/165923p-145217c.html
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lastly, and here is the bomb, if one had seen the Primetime interview then one would know that Mel Gibson does not agree with his father. Sawyer asked Mel if he believes that millions of Jews were killed in the Holocaust and Mel answered yes.

To call this movie a dangerous work of art is ludicrous and dangerous in itself. After all “Shindler’s List” did not give rise to anti- German sentiment. Yet Schindler’s List had the same potential of provoking anti-German sentiment. The link is clear. Germans killing Jews in a bloody manner just as Jews and Romans do with Jesus in this film. Yet, nobody said anything about anti-German sentiment back then and there was none. Also, Schindler’s List was not a 100% accurate account of history. It was revised and is just one version of the story just as “Passion” is Mel’s and the orthodox church’s. Such criticism is misplaced. If anything, one should be targeting the New Testament and it’s depictions of the crucifixion which explicitly label Jews and Romans as perpetrators of Christ’s death. Otherwise you are turning Mel into a ascapegoat.

MEL GIBSON on PRIMETIME "Critics who have a problem with me don't really have a problem with me in this film," Gibson said. "They have a problem with the four Gospels. That's where their problem is."

Those who know me know that I would not defend an anti-Semite. That is not what this is.

Being part of the debate league has thought me to look at issue long and deep before making conclusions and/or accusations. That’s what this is.

Another unjust and racist outcome brought to you by Affirmative Action.

Let’s get smart about the issue and adopt a comprehensive review policy.

I have yet to hear a single argument against CR.

I have two younger brothers. One is white, related to me by blood, and the other is Guatemalan, related to me by adoption. Both were raised in the same house, by the same parents, taught the same morals and values, and both are exceptionally bright. They have always been treated equally.
However, when they try to get into college, my Guatemalan brother will have a leg-up over my white brother because his skin is brown.

I Had a Good Time at Guantanamo.

We are taking these people out of their horrid conditions and provide them with a lavish Cuban lifestyle.
I say that's a good thing. Here, here for the Guantanamo prison system.

---------------------------------------------------------------

An Afghan boy whose 14-month detention by US authorities as a terrorist suspect in Cuba prompted an outcry from human rights campaigners said yesterday that he enjoyed his time in the camp.

Mohammed Ismail Agha, 15, who until last week was held at the US military base in Guantanamo Bay, said that he was treated very well and particularly enjoyed learning to speak English. His words will disappoint critics of the US policy of detaining "illegal combatants" in south-east Cuba indefinitely and without trial.

In a first interview with any of the three juveniles held by the US at Guantanamo Bay base, Mohammed said: "They gave me a good time in Cuba. They were very nice to me, giving me English lessons."

KUSHNERWORLD

If you don’t know Kushner then you must not have cable. Furthermore, you probably did not see the Golden Globes where Kushner’s masterpiece “Angels In America” won plenty of top awards.

In “Angels” his anti conservative bias-hatred was minimal and implicit. Now, after having succeeded, Kushner seems to have grown some balls. In his new work he is explicitly attacking politicians and their wives.

This brief is informative but I will withhold final judgment until I have read the play myself.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to Kushnerworld -- Pulitzer Prize-winning "Angels in America" Kushnerworld -- where heterosexuals are repressed homosexuals trapped in loveless relationships, gays are generally noble and capable of spiritual enlightenment, religion is soul-suffocating bunkum, and Republicans occupy a moral plane similar to that of the Nazis. "You're nice. I can't believe you voted for Reagan," Louis tells Joe, the repressed Mormon gay man in "Angels."

.. ... ....

The play places Bush onstage with three dead Iraqi children. Although the piece was written before the US invasion, the children are victims of American bombings or of economic sanctions. The fact that the sanctions were imposed by the United Nations, not the United States, is of course never mentioned, and the suggestion that there might have been a reason for the sanctions -- well, pshaw.
